This recipe is one my Grandmother would always make. Her cooking was by far the best, and always brought me such comfort.
1 Angel Food Cake
16oz Strawberries
1/4 Cup Sugar
6oz Strawberry Jell-O Mix
2 Cups Water
8oz Cool Whip
In a glass 9x13 pan, break cake into large chunks (1-2 inch) and spread across the bottom. Set aside.
Remove strawberry tops, and slice. In a large bowl, mash strawberries with sugar strawberries with sugar. Set aside.
Bring 2 cups of hot water to a boil. Stir in Jell-O packet. Careful add Jell-O water to strawberries and mix. Set a side 1/4 cup of strawberry Jell-O mix, pour the remaining in the angel food cake pan. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours until Jell-O is mostly solidified.
Add the saved strawberry Jell-O mix to Cool Whip. Stir until just combined. With a spatula spread Cool Whip evenly over Jell-O. Refrigerated 30 minutes more and serve.
