What is a smoothie bowl?
After some research here is what I got:
-It's not just a smoothie in a bowl... It's a thick smoothie in a bowl😏
-It feels more like a meal than a traditional smoothie.
-It's pretty.
-It's fun.
Use mostly frozen fruit and not as much liquid to get the thicker consistency. I fill my personal size blender with my fruits and then add only enough liquid to just cover the fruit.
Then comes the toppings: frozen fruit is hard to chew so you can add it, but I throw fresh fruits on top if I have them on hand. I also like to add a sprinkle of granola (specifically Kind Healthy Grains Vanilla Blueberry Clusters with Flax Seeds). Really whatever makes you happy.
I love food! I need to feel like I'm eating a full meal or food is all I think about, so drinking a smoothie just doesn't do it for me. I feel like I need a sandwich or eggs too. This has fixed that for me.
I've been doing smoothie bowls for about a month. For a blender I bought the Mainstays Personal Blender at Wal-Mart. It was only $10. It works just fine for my personal needs. The clean up is easy. I needed this to not be a huge purchase because I didn't need the guilt incase I decided it wasn't for me. (Anyone else feel bad when they buy a gadget only for it to sit in the cupboard?✋✋)
My smoothie shopping list is a mix of frozen fruits (I go about two weeks before needing more)
-pineapple
-mango
-strawberries
-blueberries
I stick to these for my taste.
To my surprise I can get frozen fruit cheaper than fresh. Even if an item were to be more expensive, so worth it for my time to not have to cut it and freeze it myself.
I also get bananas. These I buy fresh and freeze myself (don't know that I've ever seen them frozen).
You just lay parchment or freezer paper over a cookie sheet, slice the bananas, lay them in one layer, and freeze until frozen, then transfer to a freezer bag. (Freeze until frozen... I know, I know, I have no clue how long that is either. Probably like an hour)
As for liquid I'm sure there are a variety of juices that can be used. I've never tried. My thought was too sweet to much sugars.
I use coconut milk. Specifically, So Delicious unsweetened Coconut Milk. It's buy all the other milks in the store, regular, almond, etc.
